Many strategies have been used in the past to prevent the establishment of a charter school in Alamogordo. Although charter schools enhance the education of communities by providing a choice to families and educators, it has been viewed, by Alamogordo Public Schools, as a threat.
MainGate is part of the Center of Commerce with its sole purpose of working with Holloman Air Force Base and surrounding military installations to improve lifestyles, opportunities, and education for families. This includes the strength of educational experiences for their children.
Past attempts to work with APS to provide a choice to families and educators have been met with roadblocks, attempted control, and delays. APS went so far as to restrict communication between MainGate and HAFB.
On Nov 15, 2022 Supt Moore stated “Lorrie Black wanted to establish a charter school that would be the death of the public schools.” APS continued in their personal attacks.
To protect their position of resistance, APS resorted to any method to stop educational progress and maintain their total control. This has been their mindset to block educational progress.

MainGate rebuffs Alamogordo Public School District’s attempts to silence and remains steadfast in bringing educational choices to the Alamogordo Community.

Education is a cornerstone in Alamogordo and should be treated as such.
