Amber Ross Resigns From APS School Board

Amber Ross, previous Vice President of the Alamogordo Public School Board, resigned her seat on Jan 2, 2024.

She was elected in November 2021 to hold the District 5 seat. Mrs Ross is a 1999 graduate of Alamogordo High School and a 2003 graduate of NMSU.

The reason for her resignation has not been made public at this time.

Current members of the board are Angela Cadwallader, President; Brandy Murphy, Vice President; Craig Danekas, Secretary and Shannan Wright, member.

According to NM State Law, Section 22-5-9 of the Public School Code provides that vacancies can be filled by a majority vote of the remaining members of the local board. However, if this is not accomplished within 45 days from the date the vacancy occurs, the State Board of Education shall appoint a qualified person to fill the vacancy. In either case, the person appointed serves only until the next regular school board election, when an election is held to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the original term.

Since the Alamogordo Public School Board was just seated on Jan 2, we expect an announcement from them shortly regarding procedures for replacing Mrs Ross.
