The Hurd and Wyeth’s Sentinel Ranch in San Patricio, NM, Named National Historic Landmark | The Alamogordo Connection

Sentinel Ranch, home of Peter Hurd and Henriette Wyeth, acclaimed artists, was recently named a National Historic Landmark. The 2,400 acre ranch is located within the Hondo Valley in colorful San Patricio, NM. Alamogordo, NM is connected to Peter Hurd by his murals on the Otero County Administration Building. In 1938 as part of the WPA (Works Project Administration) a new post office was constructed in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Upon completion of the building and as part of the Art-in-Architecture program around the nation, Hurd was given the opportunity to paint a mural on the front of the new US Post Office.
The Sentinel Ranch is located off US 70 thirty four minutes from Ruidoso or one hour from Roswell. The ranch incorporates the Hurd La Rinconada Gallery & Guest Homes along with the Sentinel Ranch Wine Tasting Room.
