If anyone has ever watched the incredible Thunderbirds fly their tight formation maneuvers at breakneck speed, it is awesome to watch. In addition to that doing it pulling 9G’s is breathtaking. To be selected to fly with them is a once in a lifetime adventure – more than an item on your bucket list. Dr Perry was given this opportunity after being selected after nomination for her contribution to our community.
Dr. Perry has been active both as an educator, administrator, businesswoman who has stepped up to make a difference. Her leadership at NMSU-A secured a $3 million grant called Hispanic Serving Institutes of Higher Education Title V that continues to provide services and support to students.
Her dedication to Alamogordo Public Schools as Director of Elementary Schools produced increased reading and math scores every year.
As a profitable business owner of Learn New Mexico, Dr. Perry’s company serves over 10 institutions around the state regularly which includes county programs, school districts, NM PED, NMSU-A, and Cooperative Education Services with her steadily increasing staff.
Michelle Perry’s PhD is in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Learning Technologies. Her expertise is in the “effective and appropriate use of educational technology through training and professional development.”
Michelle also has a radio show, “By The Way” that airs the first Thursday of each month. “Community members participate in the discussion of educational topics as they pertain to our lives in Alamogordo.” The recorded shows are available on the “Up Up and Awake” show on Dr. Perry’s website, learnnewmexico.com
In supporting the Main Street initiative in Alamogordo, Dr. Perry is heading up the Ink Well Innovation Center which will add jobs and services to our community. Remodeling the Ink Well building for this endeavor it will save a 70-year-old building along with local history in the downtown area.
Dr. Michelle Perry has extended connections to Alamogordo. She and her husband, Jerrett, a retired educator, have lived in Alamogordo for 10 years. Both of their children graduated from Alamogordo High School. Both of Jerrett’s parents graduated from AHS.
The Thunderbirds will be the star performers at the Holloman AFB Legacy of Liberty Airshow on June 2. Dr. Perry flew Saturday, June 1 during the rehearsal for the air show.
When asked about her flight today, Dr. Perry said, “Flying in an F16 with the US Air Force Thunderbirds was the shortest – fastest moment of my life. The 9G’s is hard to put into words. I felt the weight of 30 thousand Alamogordians – I wanted to make them proud!”
