President of the APS School Board, Judy Rabon, is “enthusiastically pursuing re-election” based on her “record of accomplishments.”
Let’s examine. Mrs Rabon mailed postcards to voters in her district. In the picture above you can see the very small print listing her accomplishments which makes it difficult to read; however, we will move on to the list.
- “WORKED DIRECTLY WITH BOTH STATE AND FEDERAL AGENCIES TO SECURE FUNDING FOR TWO NEW MIDDLE SCHOOLS.”
All strategic planning for both schools was complete and all funding sources were secured prior to Mrs Rabon’s entrance. In fact, under her leadership, she has destabilized the start of both Holloman Middle School and Chaparral Middle School.
- “SUCCESSFULLY PASSED A $15 MILLION BOND, SECURING FUNDING FOR SECURITY AND UPGRADES TO EXISTING SCHOOLS.”
Approximately $85,000 was spent to have a special vote outside of the regular voting schedule for these much-needed tax dollars instead of waiting until this November. Why the rush?
From a recent forum regarding the new Chaparral Middle School construction, many in the community learned that the school was supposed to be finished in 2021 but has yet to be started. It was also stated the reason for construction delays is the result of APS’s negligence. Don’t the President and members of the School Board have oversight on this project? Have the problems with this hold on construction been resolved?
What or who is the source of this 15 million dollar bond? Is this referring to the taxpayer Bond mentioned above? If so, the taxpayers are stakeholders in its use. It would be wise for the school board and APS to accept community input other than just their money as one without the other will not last long.
- “CHAMPIONED TELEHEALTH APPOINTMENTS IN SCHOOLS FOR ENHANCED STUDENT WELL-BEING.”
Wasn’t this part of a government program?
- “STRENGTHENED THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN OUR DISTRICT AND HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE.”
She has intentionally destabilized HAFB and community leader relationships while publically demonizing pro-HAFB constituents where the sole purpose is to support the mission of HAFB. The Holloman leadership team has spoken directly with the school board and they do not TRUST in this relationship at all. The community is preparing for K-12 on Holloman. Are you?
- “LED EFFORTS TO RECRUIT AND RETAIN HIGHLY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL”
APS employee harassment practices have long been reported to drive highly qualified educators out of Alamogordo. Those with stronger ties to the community who are otherwise unable to move will likely find a new Charter School at Holloman an excellent alternative. Surrounding schools have already been the beneficiary of many excellent teachers and employees FROM APS due to the work environment and attitudes of superiors.
- “AGGRESSIVELY CAMPAIGNED AND WAS SUCCESSFUL IN INCREASING TEACHER WAGES ACROSS THE BOARD.” NM PED FUNDED MANDATE.
No authority or persuasion related to teacher/administrator salary. The teachers’ and administrators’ pay increases were initiated at the state level by Gov. Lujan Grisham for fiscal 2023/2024.
As president of the school board, Mrs Rabon has allowed the maltreatment of the teachers and employees of APS to continue. This is exemplified by the many lawsuits and complaints filed. In Mrs Rabon’s position, she could have issued instructions to Interim Superintendent Renteria to investigate these many problems and correct them but that has not happened. The problems continue.
Mrs Rabon has not monitored the progress of either middle school or demanded answers. Neither school is built.
Mrs Rabon does not seem to understand the serious nature of being a good steward of taxpayer money. This is not a game! The board has a duty and is accountable.
This is a FAIL!
Craig Danekas, a respected, trustworthy businessman is challenging Judy Rabon for School Board in District 1.
Vote wisely. Your child’s education depends on it!
